Jindal initially proposed to swap out the income tax for increased sales taxes charged on an array of new services. That plan was so unpopular the Republican governor announced Monday that he was abandoning it.
But he's not abandoning the push to remove the income tax.
Lawmakers and others are questioning how - and if - they'll offset the loss of $3 billion in tax revenue if they agree to repeal income taxes. And that is becoming the new central tax debate of the session.
