The Cane Fire Film Series is partnering with Cité des Arts to hold a fundraiser for the Festival of Words featuring a special screening of the new film Ferlinghetti: A Rebirth of Wonder.

The documentary from director Christopher Felver takes a keen look at poet, playwright, publisher and activist Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who largely helped jumpstart the 1950s San Francisco literary renaissance and accompanying "Beat" movement.

And in honor of Ferlinghetti and his work, the evening will begin with beat poetry performances from local poets including Jerry McGuire.

There will also be a silent auction with items such as handmade quilts, glass art from Karen Bourque, paintings from local artists and much more with all proceeds from the event going towards the 2013 Festival of Words being held in November.

The evening begins this Saturday, April 13, with poetry readings at 7 p.m. followed by the screening at 8 p.m., at Cité des Arts located at 109 Vine St. in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Cité des Arts or by calling 337-291-1122.
