Lady in Pink

Komen's latest fundraiser begs for vibrant pink pieces

I love clever. And so, it was with great delight that I read the "Attire" description for Susan G. Komen's latest and greatest shindig slated for this weekend - the VIPink Party.

"We are calling it pink tie optional,'" says Komen's Michelle Izzo-Voss.

The event at Cypress Bayou is a celebration and fundraiser that stemmed from Race for the Cure.

"Cypress Bayou is dedicated to helping us increase fundraising to make a bigger impact on research, screening, education and treatment for breast cancer patients," according to Acadiana's Komen executive director Heather Blanchard.

She says they are thinking cocktail attire for the first year, but anything pink goes in truth. For every Race for the Cure participant who raises $100, they get a free VIPink ticket. (The discounted rate for screening mammograms - $100.)

"We are asking each participant to take the power of 10 challenge and ask 10 people for $10 to make a difference in a women's life," according to Heather.

The gala event is Saturday at Cypress Bayou Casino in Baldwin with a cocktail hour, dinner and music.

So, what's a girl to wear? We spotted two vibrant pink creations at local boutiques that could certainly fit the bill.

For the fan of the more body con style, we're loving this simple shape from Hemline. This sleeveless dress is perfect for showing off those arms and begs for a statement necklace in gold or one of spring's bold shades - mint, a contrasting pink or even coral.

At 7 Chics a dress that easily goes from day to night could work from the office to the party. For day: pair with a wedge and chunky necklace. For night: some sparkling statement earrings, upswept hair and a mile high heel whether it's a sexy strappy sandal or a sleek pump. Add a metallic clutch and you're ready for a night that's as much about fun as it is fundraising - a combo that's so very en vogue.
