The Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission - those hard-working tourism folks - has made it easier for tourists and locals alike to plan their weekends in Lafayette Parish. LCVC on Wednesday announced a new smart phone application for both Droid and iPhone that allows one to see what's going on in the area weeks in advance, and to even make sure the weather is going to cooperate.

The app is free and also includes specials offered by local restaurants and other merchants, general information about the area as well as GPS-based mapping that allows a smart phone user to find lodging, recreational activities, restaurants, shopping and events close to them.

"As technology grows, it is important for us to keep up with our visitors' desire to have as much access as they can to all the great amenities Lafayette Parish has to offer," says LCVC Executive Director Ben Berthelot in a press release touting the new app. "This mobile app will be a user friendly way for visitors to navigate their stay in Lafayette. We are pleased to get it launched, and we have more technology offerings on the way."

The app can be downloaded at the App Store for iPhone users and wherever Droid users get their apps. (Sorry, we're all iPhoners here.) Or click here.
