Bank robber at-large; Alice Boucher on lockdown

Alice Boucher Elementary School was placed on lockdown at about 11 a.m. this morning due to a suspect from a nearby bank robbery being on the loose.

Following a tip received this morning, The IND contacted the elementary school and confirmed with an office worker that an order had just come in from the Lafayette Parish School System office to put the school on lockdown until further notice. The office worker also confirmed that the lockdown was a precautionary measure stemming from the armed robbery of a Moss Street bank. The bank robbery suspect is on the loose, meaning it is uncertain when the school will return to normal operation.

Cpl. Paul Mouton, a spokesman for the Lafayette Police Department, confirms that the 911 call came in at about 9:41 a.m., when a white male, between 5'5" and 5'7", entered the American Bank and Trust Co. at 2931 Moss St.

Mouton, in an e-mailed response, says according to witnesses, the masked suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

"[The] suspect fired one shot in the lobby then gained access to the back area," writes Mouton. "He stole an undisclosed amount of cash and stole an employee's vehicle. The vehicle was recovered a short time later in the 100 block of Comfort."

Mouton confirms there were no customers inside the bank at the time of the incident, and no bank employees were injured. The suspect remains at-large.
