BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Up to 850 people are expected Wednesday for an education gathering that includes former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Gov. Bobby Jindal, state Superintendent of Education John White, House Education Committee Chairman Steve Carter, R-Baton Rouge, and Senate Education Committee Chairman Conrad Appel, R-Metairie, are also scheduled to appear.

Rice was secretary of state from 2005-09 and National Security Adviser from 2001-04, both under former President George W. Bush.

The Advocate reports the event, called "Leadership for Change," will take place at a Baton Rouge hotel. A similar gathering last year featured comments by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Carter, who is one of the organizers, has said the meeting is aimed at letting Louisiana educators hear about public school changes elsewhere.
