Elnora Washington, a veteran educator of the Lafayette Parish School System, has focused her career on improving the lives of the children; that, coupled with her view that teaching is a path and not a paycheck, is among the reasons for her being honored by the Louisiana Association of Educators as a recipient of the 2013 Education Support Professional Image Award.

Washington is a paraeducator at Charles W. Burke Elementary School who has dedicated more than four decades of her life to the children of the Lafayette Parish School System.

"My goal in life is to continue assisting and improving the moral and social lives of the school children of Lafayette Parish," says Washington. "What I do is much more than a job; it's a calling."

According to an LAE press release, the Image Awards "are presented annually to recognize Louisiana educators whose leadership and actions in their professions have advanced public education in Louisiana. Every year, the LAE chooses one outstanding education support professional to honor with the LAE ESP Image Award."
