Acadiana 365’s Weekend Picks

With Festival International in full swing, here are a few highlights of some of the events happening in tandem with Lafayette's biggest music festival.

Festival International is in full swing and in addition to the myriad of performers from around Acadiana and abroad, this weekend will see several events complementing the festival's regular activities.

Louisiana International Music Expo

Festival International de Louisiane and Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission is teaming up to present this mixer style event catering specifically to local musicians in the Acadiana area. LIME serves both as a place where musicians can share their music with established music presenters and talent buyers from all over the globe who have come for Festival International.

LIME is free and will be held Friday, April 26, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Blue Moon Saloon. For more information visit FestivalInternational.com or email [email protected].

Alice in Wonderland: A Contemporary Ballet

Cité des Arts presents this all new retelling of the Lewis Carroll classic through an original modern dance concert featuring original movement and music provided by local artists such as A Funk Band Named Machete, DJ Andino, Mike King of the Botanist and Andrea Cohen of Sassafrass Jubilee.

Alice in Wonderland: A Contemporary Ballet runs Friday, April 26 to Saturday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee showing on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at CitedesArts.org or by calling 291-1122.

Parc de Lafayette Jam

Downtown Lafayette's favorite pocket park will be holding a concert of its own Friday night with performances from Terrance Morgan and various artists including DJ Prima, DJ Digital, DJ Andino, DJ Funky Mojo, Agent Downbeat and A Funk Band Named Machete. The Parc de Lafayette Jam will be held Friday, April 26, from 5-11 p.m. at Parc de Lafayette, located across from the Jefferson Street Library. The concert is free and open to the public.

Slamdango!

Wanderlust Theatre Company presents Slamdango!, a two-night event featuring local and regional puppeteers gathered together to showcase their innovative and provocative short-form puppet and object theatre to adult audiences. The event is an inaugural puppet slam and has been accepted as an event within Festival International de Louisiane. For mature audiences only.

Slamdango! will be held Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 28, at starting at 8:45 p.m. at Theatre 810, located at 810 Jefferson St., in downtown Lafayette. Festival International de Louisiane Courir du Festival 5K

Chevron and Festival International de Louisiane invite you to run, walk, skip or jump in the 2013 Courir du Festival 5K Run. Runners will meet at Scène Chevron Héritage, on Jefferson Street across from Chase Tower, on Saturday, April 27, at 8 a.m. for the annual 5K run. The race features music from international Festival artists Bodh'akten as well as dancing, food, drinks, art and more. Prospective runners can register the morning of the race for only $35 per entry.
