From quirky preppy to downright downtown hippie, FIL was a stage for style
Street style is a beautiful thing. It's a kind of impromptu fashion show that those with true personal style give us on the everyday. There are few Lafayette events that lend themselves to this pop up style show like Festival International.
As I perused the crowd there was a lot to choose from. There were some real train wrecks (perhaps a public service announcement that shorts should be larger than the size of most people's underwear is in order), but even the hottest of hot messes were their own kind of ode to style.
I found three ladies that spoke most clearly to the three styles that permeated the fashion set during FIL - downtown cool, bright preppy and boho hippie.
We'll start with the boho hippie chic. Angelle-Leigh Breaux caught my eye with her ethereal maxi dress. The kind of dress with true versatility, Angelle styled it with a belt, funky booties, a cool vintage bag and some aviators. Her streak of green hair was just the extra bit of funk that took her look from sweet to a darker place.
The mother-daughter duo of Sandra and Devin Delhomme were too cute to pass up.
Devin wore the number one FIL trend - cutoffs. And she did it right. The perfect length, her shorts were short enough to err on the side of sexy and long enough to keep things decent. The little booties were the perfect footwear and while her top was sheer, a black little cropped tank underneath was the perfect way to layer things. A straw fedora is a must for festival going and just what we'll all be wearing again this summer. A pop of neon on her bag pulls in yet another trend. And while this gal was sporting a multitude of trending pieces, she managed to look truly effortless.
Festival fashion is usually all about our first two gals. But, there's a place for the preppier fashionistas among us. And Sandra proved it doesn't have to be boring with her punchy colors and fun sandals. Her blue shorts and spring yellow polka dot top are just the sort of way to pair summery hues. She added sandals in a deeper blue and took things up a notch with a bold melon-hued bag.
So, while the last drumbeat has faded and FIL 2013 has passed, there are certainly some style lessons that will serve you well all summer long. Because while Festival may be THE festival, it's not the only time you'll be festivaling this season. We're in south Louisiana, afterall, ya'll.
