Walk it out

by Amanda Bedgood

Big Easel may be have been postponed, but ArtWalk is ready to sate your cravings

With great disappointment we learned yesterday that The Big Easel was postponed from this Saturday to June 8 (still in River Ranch Town Square), but alas, the artists of the affair aren't leaving us hanging. During ArtWalk through downtown not only will The Big Easel preview still be open at Lounge (where you can see the very best from each artist handpicked for Easel), but other galleries around town will be open as well with peeks at what the artists of Easel will have in store come June.

And thanks to the efforts of Lafayette Art Association and other artists, there will be lots of options to buy as well as peruse just in time for Mother's Day.

"I know that many of you look forward to The Big Easel as a resource for Mother's Day gifts. Have no fear! The Lafayette arts community has come together in a huge way in the last 12 hours to be sure that the artists of The Big Easel still have a way to present and sell their work Mother's Day weekend," according to organizer Jeffery McCullough.

Here's how things are going to round out for Saturday night.

Lounge Gallery & Tsunami  - The Big Easel preview show that was supposed to come down today will remain up. Forty plus Easel artists have paintings and photography in this show.

The gallery will be open tomorrow night from 5:30-8:30 pm.

Kelli Kaufman Studio and Gallery - Kaufman, who planned to open her space post Easel pushed things up for the occasion and will be open around the corner from Lounge (from 5 to 9) at 108 West Congress between Jefferson Street and Buchanan Street.

Svendson Studios - Lue Svendson's recently closed her Breaux Bridge gallery and opened anew downtown. She'll be there from 5 to 9 with her own work as well as Laurence Young, John Clayton and Eric Svendson with rosaries by Paty Pizarro. Her studio is at 424 E. Vermilion Street between Johnston Street and Lee Avenue.

Gallery Sans Souci - The space at 219 E. Vermilion Street will be open during Art Walk and some of the Easel artists whose work will be shown are: jewelry by Erin Gesser (Easel Jewelry category winner), ceramics/pottery by Camille Claibourne, jewelry by Kathy Prejean, metal pieces by Susan Carver.

Antlers - Julie Breaux will have her work at the downtown spot at 555 Jefferson.

The Lafayette Art Association Gallery at 1008 E St. Mary Blvd, which isn't usually closed on Saturday nights, will open from 6 to 8 in the Oil Center and rep more than a dozen Easel artists including:

Anna Bergeron

Jacob Broussard

Susan Chiquelin
