Weekly unemployment insurance claims drop

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims decreased to 3,306 from the previous week's total of 3,386. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 4,177 initial claims.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending June 1 decreased from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims decreased to 3,306 from the previous week's total of 3,386. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 4,177 initial claims.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,939 from the previous week's total of 2,729.

Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending June 1 increased to 22,647 compared to 22,047 the previous week.

The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 21,987 from the previous week's average of 22,077.
