Weekly unemployment insurance claims increase

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims increased to 3,026 from the previous week's total of 2,915. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 3,633 initial claims.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending June 22 increased from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims increased to 3,026 from the previous week's total of 2,915. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 3,633 initial claims.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 3,251 from the previous week's total of 3,341.

Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending June 22 increased to 24,553 compared to 24,447 the previous week.

The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 23,819 from the previous week's average of 23,193.
