Cane Fire Film Series presents ’A Girl And A Gun’

The Cane Fire Film Series will screen Cathryne Czubek's A Girl and A Gun, which examines America's expansive yet diverse female gun community, on Sunday, July 7, at Cité des Arts.

The latest screening from the Cane Fire Film Series is A Girl and A Gun from director Cathryne Czubek. The film conveys the feminine perspective on gun ownership, which is a stark contrast given that this particular object has, throughout history, been synonymous with men and masculinity in general.

The film also depicts how the American female gun community is portrayed by the media and how it is targeted by the gun industry. And, through a collection of several personal stories, the film shows how guns have one way or another changed women's lives forever.

By examining the classic Hollywood caricatures like those of the tomboyish sharpshooters or the sexually inverted femme fatales, A Girl and A Gun analyzes the truth in that the average woman who spends time at a rifle range and stores ammo in her purse is actually closer to the girl next door, the single mom, or event the president of the local PTO; she is a woman who cares about her personal safety and that of her family and may even feel empowered by possessing such a weapon.

Cane Fire Film Series presents A Girl and A Gun on Sunday, July 7, starting at 7:30 p.m., at Cité des Arts, located at 109 Vine St., in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. For more information visit Facebook.com/CaneFireFilmSeries.
