Acadiana 365’s Pick of the Day: Leaving Earth

The Lafayette Science Museum has an all new exhibit this summer ideal for those would-be astronauts called "Leaving EarthThe Story of Space Travel."

The Lafayette Science Museum's latest installment is Leaving EarthThe Story of Space Travel, which is a hands-on exhibit full of activities for children and adults alike who are fascinated with the final frontier.

The installation includes a station with a simulated rocket fueling and subsequent countdown to liftoff. There's also an exhibit that lets guests practice their skills at operating robotic arms. Leaving Earth also features a chronological timeline along with complementing memorabilia showing just how far humanity has come as far as space travel.

Leaving EarthThe Story of Space Travel is on display throughout the summer at the Lafayette Science Museum, located at 433 Jefferson St., in downtown Lafayette. Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults ages 18-61, $3 for seniors ages 62 and older, and $2 for children ages 4-17 with infants up to age 3 admitted for free.
