Cane Fire Classics presents ’Dr. Strangelove’

On Sunday, the Cane Fire Classics Series screens Stanley Kubrick's immortal Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, at Cité des Arts at 7:30 p.m.

This weekend, the Cane Fire Film Series is dusting off a classic cinema gem from its collection for the first entry in its new Cane Fire Classics with Stanley Kubrick's immortal Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

The film stars Peter Sellers as the title character, among others, and Geroge C. Scott as they work to prevent nuclear holocaust after a deranged United States Air Force general orders a squadron of B-52s to drop its payload of hydrogen bombs on the Soviet Union.

Most of the story takes place in a war room filled with the President of the United States, his advisers, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Royal Air Force officer as they determine the best course of action for averting armageddon, but also follows the crew of one of the fated B-52s as they attempt to deliver their payload.

Cane Fire Classics screens Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb on Sunday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Cité des Arts located at 109 Vine St., in downtown Lafayette. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information call (337) 356-5153, email [email protected] or visit Facebook.com/CaneFireFilmSeries.
