BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The layoff figures for the just-ended 2012-13 budget year have grown to show that more than 3,800 employees received pink slips from the state.

That includes more than 1,900 employees of four LSU hospitals and their outpatient clinics that were privatized in the final days of the fiscal year that ended June 30.

Data released Thursday by the Department of State Civil Service showed that 6,005 state employees have been let go during the five years of Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration.

Thousands more left jobs targeted for layoffs, particularly because of privatization deals the administration struck across state-run health care facilities.

The Jindal administration says many workers laid off at LSU and other state health care facilities were hired by the private companies taking over management of the sites.
