Record number of Advanced Placement exams Louisiana students earned college credit on 2013. The Times-Picayune reported that Louisiana students earned college credit on 5,144 Advanced Placement exams in 2013, the largest number in the state's history and the largest one-year increase. The results underscore the success of a state initiative that encourages schools to offer AP courses.

The T-P notes that the state also leads the U.S. in growth of the number of students taking an AP exam: 10,529 students, 4,000 more than last year. In 2012, the state had the fifth-lowest AP participation rate in the nation, with 16.1 percent of high school graduates taking one of the tests.
