BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State lawmakers are deciding whether to let Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration sell state property in Iberville Parish and in downtown Baton Rouge.
The House and Senate natural resources committees are meeting in Grand Isle on Thursday to consider the property sales.
Sen. Gerald Long, chairman of the Senate committee, said the meeting location was chosen because many of the lawmakers on the committees were planning to be on the island this weekend for a fishing rodeo.
Sales to be considered Thursday involve the Point Clair Farm, a nearly 2,200 acre-site in Iberville Parish that is former prison property valued at $12 million, and the State Office Building, an art deco-era property in downtown Baton Rouge appraised at $10 million.
Dollars from the property sales are included in this year's budget.
