What you can expect and how to wear it come fall.

It's been a long time since I've needed to live by a semester calendar. Yet each year around this time I feel I'm starting a new year of sorts - fresh and full of possibilities. This fall is no different as I look toward what sort of style will arrive new and begging to be worn.
We've broken down the basics in our 2013 Fall Syllabus for what you can expect and how to wear it this fall.
Course Description
Style mavens are expected to understand basic principles of style, including mixing prints, proper combination of high- and low-end pieces, seamless day-to-nighttime looks, moto looks that work off the Harley and camo that's chic.
Required Materials
Moto: Moto-themed attire is a must for fall. Fashionistas can choose between boots, leather-inset leggings and tough jackets. The black basic moto boot is the season's most versatile choice working with day and evening looks that are both edgy and wearable for even demure dressers. These beauties from Vanessa V. Boutique ($68) are just what to wear with distressed denim.
Wild denim: Jeans get the funky treatment come fall with prints that continue to rule. Bonus: treatments like waxes and metallic rubs. A pair of CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans ($188) found at Vanessa V. are just the sort of denim that can go from funky moto with a leather jacket to laid-back dinner with a silky top and heels.
Chic camo: Your man's been rocking the camo look for years. It's your turn now, and there's no shortage of chic ways to make it happen. This easy top ($138) from Hemline is how the button down does camouflage. Paired with distressed denim or a simple cutoff is the way to do it. Points deducted for pairing with too much military-inspired flair. Balance is key when it comes to camouflage.
Standout sneaks: Keds are back, and prints are hot on the feet. The most casual shoe of all gets the fashionista treatment with uptown flavor like these reptile-printed sneakers ($70) from Shoe La La. From polka dot canvas to animal prints.
Course Goals
While fall's trends are certainly where it's at, real style is about blazing your trail. Making your own path. Bonus points for finding that enviable balance of old and new.
