Rodney Alexander won't run for re-election next year, the congressman told The News-Star in an exclusive interview this afternoon. The paper reported:
Alexander, R-Ruston, who hadn't yet drawn serious opposition for 2014, said he's grown weary of brutal party politics in Washington and fund-raising.

"I've represented the best people in the world; it's been a privilege and I've enjoyed it," said Alexander, 66. "But I never wanted to be in Washington all my life."

Alexander won his first term by fewer than 1,000 votes in 2002 when he was a Democrat, beating the late Lee Fletcher, who was a Republican.
