The damn thing couldn't even get out of intro!

by Walter Pierce

That's right, unwilling to countenance an honest dialogue and with an apparent animus toward the city of the Lafayette, i.e., the economic engine of the freakin' parish, a cabal on the City-Parish Council on Tuesday night snuffed an introductory ordinance that could have ultimately let voters decide whether the Home Rule Charter should be amended. Yay for democracy!

That's right, unwilling to countenance an honest dialogue and with an apparent animus toward the city of the Lafayette, i.e., the economic engine of the parish, a cabal on the City-Parish Council on Tuesday night snuffed an introductory ordinance that could have ultimately let voters decide whether the Home Rule Charter should be amended. In other words, the city of Lafayette doesn't need the same autonomy as EVERY OTHER municipality in the parish. It's our sugar daddy, after all! (Apologies for prior and forthcoming exclamation points like this one!)

District 6 Councilman Andy Naquin, the ONLY councilman whose constituents are wholly within the city of Lafayette and who stood to benefit the most from proposed changes to the charter, voted with the rural fellas to kill the ordinance. He was joined in killing the ordinance and silencing debate by Jared Bellard, Jay Castille, Kevin Naquin and William Theriot. The four councilmen who represent mostly the city of Lafayette (Don Bertrand, Kenneth Boudreaux, Keith Patin and council Chairman Brandon Shelvin) voted for the ordinance.
