One pizza parlor's loss is another's opportunity.

One pizza parlor's loss is another's opportunity. Hungry Howie's Pizza, a franchise chain founded 40 years ago in Michigan, will open Thursday in the space formerly occupied by Papa Murphy's Pizza, which closed last year after a very short run in the market.

Located on the Congress Street side of University Square shopping center - anchored by Rouses across from Cajun Field - Hungry Howie's specializes in flavored crusts (butter cheese, Cajun, garlic herb and so on) and caters to college students with hours of operation including delivery that extend until 4 a.m.

The chain has roughly 575 locations coast to coast, but the Lafayette restaurant will its first in Louisiana. The Lafayette franchisee is Ray Williams Jr., who has been with the company since 2009 and has two decades' experience in the pizza biz.
