The 2013 Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition, or LAGCOE, is gearing up to be the biggest of the biennial event since its inception in 1955.

Featured at this year's LAGCOE, which will be held Oct. 22-24 at the Cajundome and Convention Center, will be 415 exhibits from oil and gas companies based both here in the U.S. and internationally, including Mexico, Angola, Australia, Brazil, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, to name a few, says event organizer Claire Thom, who spoke during a media luncheon held Tuesday at the Petroleum Club. The waiting list, adds Thom, includes an additional 400 companies that will not be presenting during this year's event.

Registrants for the 2013 exhibit - which is one of only two oil and gas shows in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program - include more than 14,000 oil and gas industry professionals from more than 26 countries, says Thom.

The event will feature the newest state-of-the-art technology and equipment and a slew of presentations on topics ranging from shale gas risk management, the outlook for deepwater exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and international opportunities developing in Mexico and India.

Another addition to this year's event, says Dr. Terry Chambers of UL Lafayette's Engineering Department, is the Future Energy Professionals Program, which will entail the selection of 100 high school juniors and seniors with an aptitude for engineering who will get to experience all the ins and outs of the show.
