Landrieu, Cassidy in statistical dead heat

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu's vulnerability as a Democrat in a Southern red state is being underscored by a new poll showing her and her chief Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy of Baton Rouge in a statistical tie.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu's vulnerability as a Democrat in a Southern red state is being underscored by a new poll showing her and her chief Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy of Baton Rouge in a statistical tie. Landrieu leads Cassidy 45 to 41 percent in the poll conducted by the GOP firm OnMessage. Released Monday by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the poll was conducted last week among 800 voters.

A grain of salt, however, may be in order: an earlier poll conducted by a Democratic group showed the senator with a 10-point lead over the Cassidy, 50 to 40 percent.
