We're Golden: IND Monthly and INDfamily receive award

IND Monthly and INDfamily are recipients of Acadiana Breastfeeding Coalition's "Liquid Gold" award for the Baby B&B hosted during Festival International. The award is given to local businesses in Acadiana that work to promote and support breastfeeding.

During this year's Festival International, many area families stopped by the tent to change diapers, escape the heat and for moms to nurse babies in privacy. The tent also offered electrical outlets for pumping moms.

"As a nursing mom, it's something I wished would have been around when my daughter was smaller. I'm so proud to be working for a local publication that feels the same way and let me take the wheel to pioneer this service at Festival International," says IND Monthly's Kari Walker, who helped organize the tent service. "Of course, it would not have been possible if Festival would not also have embraced the idea. The thanks we received for the tent are amazing. Hopefully we are able to offer this again in the future."

Festival International was also recognized with a Liquid Gold award for its support of Baby B&B.

Additional "Liquid Gold" awards were presented as part of ABC's third annual Breastfeeding Awareness Celebration held at Lafayette South Regional Library on Saturday, Aug. 17. Recipients present included Lafayette General Medical Center, St. Martin Parish Government, Opelousas General Health System and MotherBirth.
