Governor tells a gathering of Canadian oilmen "blind leftwing idealogues" are holding up the oil pipeline.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal traveled to the Canadian Rockies Tuesday to blame "blind leftwing ideologues" for the impasse over building the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline, The Wall Street Journal reports.
In all, according to a blog posted this morning that cites an advanced copy of the speech's text, the Republican governor makes 16 references to left-wing opponents to the pipeline in a sharply partisan speech before a gathering of Canadian oilmen. Jindal, however, makes no mention of President Barack Obama, who will have the final say over the project.
"He's beholden to the left," a Jindal spokesman told the WSJ of the president, in explaining why Mr. Jindal left him out of the speech. "This is a long-term issue with the left."
The proposed pipeline would carry crude from Canadian oil sands in Alberta to U.S. refineries.
