Cinema Night Mardi Movie
Vermilionville rolls out its latest cinema event this Friday with Mardi Movies Cinema Night. This event offers Acadiana's movie buffs a chance to see foreign blockbusters from France, Belgium, Algeria and Quebec, which are presented in French accompanied by English subtitles. The evening kicks off with accordionist Phillip Gould performing French music at 6 p.m., followed by the evening's first film, Starbuck at 7 p.m., then Romantic Anonymous at 9 p.m., next is Tomboy at 10:30 p.m., and rounding out the screening is Masquerades at midnight.
Cinema Night Mardi Movie begins at 7 p.m., at Vermilionville, located at 300 Fisher Road. Admission to the screening is free, but a suggested $5 donation will go towards screening costs. For more information visit Facebook.com/MardiMovie.
Walk to Defeat ALS
Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, and every 90 minutes someone loses their battle to this fatal disease. To help fight this disease, the ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter is hosting the Lafayette Walk to Defeat ALS to support local families Living with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Participants will walk alongside ULL baseball players while enjoying live music from DJ Bubba Leger, along with children's activities including a fun jump, a visit from Mitch the Magician, comedy by Jim Richard and more.
The Lafayette Walk to Defeat ALS begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, in Girard Park. All proceeds will go toward local patient programs and ALS research. To register, visit WalktoDefeatALS.org.
Seed to Skillet: Peppers & Preserves
The Seed to Skillet series, which focuses on the entire process of growing, harvesting and preparing your own food, returns for its third quarter installment. Vermilionville artisan Greg Guidroz will be harvesting peppers and preparing pepper jelly, muscadine jelly, beans and collards and greens with rice. Guidroz will also be talking about collecting and composting, drying and choosing seeds.

The Color Purple
The Hemann Center is hosting a production based on Alice Walker's classic Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Color Purple.
This inspiring family saga tells the unforgettable story of a woman finding the strength to triumph over adversity and how, through tough love, she discovers her unique voice in the world.
The Color Purple starts at 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 29, at The Heymann Center, located at 1373 S. College Road.
