The former UL head football coach is crying race in yet another lawsuit, this time against the state Department of Education.

The former UL head football coach's latest money grab comes via a lawsuit filed against the state Department of Education after the DOE last July removed New Living Word School in Ruston, of which (Pastor) Baldwin is principal, from its voucher program. The DOE is seeking nearly $400,000 in reimbursements from the school, alleging the NLWS overcharged on tuition for voucher students.
According to The Advocate - Baldwin isn't mentioned by name in the story but how can Ragin' Cajun football fans forget him? - New Living Word School claims in the suit that the DOE "singled out NLWS and treated NLWS differently under the law than similarly situated schools participating in the Scholarship Program simply on account of its religious affiliation and/or the race of its officers and the racial composition of its student body." The suit ignores the fact that other schools receiving vouchers are black majority schools that are church-affiliated.
Baldwin isn't a rookie at this sort of thing. In 2007 he - amazingly - won a $2 million federal jury award against UL Lafayette in a civil rights suit claiming he was fired because of his race, not because of the Ragin Cajuns' pathetic 6-27 record during his tenure as head coach from 1998-2001. The award was later vacated by an appeals court.
