Acadiana 365’s Pick of the Day: James Brown - Get On the Good Foot

The Apollo Theatre leads a troupe of local dancers in paying homage to the Godfather of Soul on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The Godfather of Soul is coming to town when six of the world's finest choreographers from Harlem's renowned Apollo Theatre team up with dancers and production crews from the area to pay tribute to the legendary icon with James Brown: Get on the Good Foot, A Celebration In Dance, which launches at the Heymann Performing Arts Center tomorrow night ahead of its Oct. 22 world premiere at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y.

Under the artistic direction of acclaimed choreographer Otis Sallid Dancers from the Philiadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO) will pay tribute to Brown through original dance numbers and a musical score composed of classic music by the soul icon and new works by musicians influenced by Brown.

Activities will include student outreach, workshops and more. An open rehearsal will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Heymann Center followed the next day by a "pre-premiere" performance of the production, also at the Heymann.

James Brown: Get on the Good Foot, A Celebration In Dance begins Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Heymann, located at 1373 S. College Road. For ticket information as well as a list of the other outreach events taking place all weekend long around Lafayette, visit AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org.
