Raising funds with Raising Cane's

by Kari Walker

Eat poulet frit for Les Amis de L'Immersion On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Raising Cane's at 2426 W. Congress St. is giving back to help the French immersion programs in Lafayette. When diners mention Les Amis, the program will receive 15% of sales made from 4:30-8:30 p.m.

Les Amis de L'Immersion is a non-profit organization of parents of immersion students with a focus onĀ  providing support for the French Immersion program in Lafayette Parish. Funds raised provide support to French teachers, provide public awareness about language programs and help students with enrichment opportunities. French immersion teaches children a second language and also helps preserve French culture in Lafayette and Acadiana.

The Cane's fundraiser will bring new French books and classroom materials immersion teachers would like to have that are not covered by the school system.

The current Lafayette parish French Immersion program follows the partial immersion model - students participate in language arts in English, but all other subjects are taught in French. The program includes students in grades from Pre-K through 8th grade.
