The deadline to purchase tickets for the last installment of IND Monthly's 2013 Lecture Series featuring best-selling author Scott Turow is Monday, Dec. 2, at noon.

Turow's first novel, a best-seller, was adapted for film in 1990 and became the eighth highest grossing movie of the year, bringing in $221 million worldwide. The book is about a prosecutor charged with murdering his female colleague/mistress.

Turow, an author who also continues to practice law, has made a name for himself in the realm of legal fiction with nine best-selling titles, as well as non-fiction, including Ultimate Punishment, an examination of the death penalty and winner of the prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Book Award in 2004.

Turow is no stranger to Hollywood, and his lecture, titled "A Novelist Goes to Hollywood," will entail the ins and outs of bringing a novel to the silver screen, as well as a Q&A led by Lafayette Bar Association President Blake David using questions submitted by local attorneys (questions can still be submitted by emailing [email protected]).

"When we began discussing the opportunity for the bar association to be part of The IND's lecture series, Scott Turow was one of our first choices as speaker," says David. "By choosing a best-selling author who is also an attorney, we hope to bring value to the community in addition to our membership."

Along with collaboration from the Lafayette Bar Association, the supporting and presenting sponsors for the event are the law firm of Jones Walker and IberiaBank, respectively.

Turow's lecture will begin at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at The Hilton Lafayette. The event will be followed by a book signing, with Barnes & Noble offering books for sale on-site.

Tickets for the event are $45 (luncheon only) or $80 (includes a pre-autographed copy of Turow's latest release). Premium tables for eight are $355 and $655, respectively. To purchase tickets, contact Robin Hebert via email at [email protected] or by phone at 337-769-8603.
