Weekly claims for unemployment insurance rise

The state labor department figures released Monday show the initial claims increased to 2,854 from the previous week's total of 2,363. Initial claims were above the comparable week a year earlier at 2,705.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Nov. 23, increased from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Monday show the initial claims increased to 2,854 from the previous week's total of 2,363. Initial claims were above the comparable week a year earlier at 2,705.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,558 from the previous week's total of 2,438.

Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Nov. 23 increased to 22,839, compared to the previous week's total of 22,404. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 22,536 from the previous week's average of 22,503.
