K-9 on trial
The fate of a Kaplan pit bull who killed its neighbor's cat is now in the hands of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury, according to this report from Vermilion Today. At issue is a parish ordinance calling for any animal deemed "vicious" to be put to death, but in this case, the cat had entered the pit bull's yard, and as the story notes, possibly provoked the K-9's wrath.

Making history
St. Martin Parish Councilwoman Lisa Nelson, according to this story from Teche News, made history this week by becoming the first black female named chairwoman of the council. The parish council also made history by electing its first-ever all black group of officers, with Councilman Craig Gregory elected vice chairman and Councilman Jason Willis named temporary presiding officer.
RN program delayed
The start of a new registered nursing program at South Louisiana Community College, The Advocate reports here, will be delayed by at least six months due to a shortage of teachers. The program's classes were set to begin this spring, but so far, only two of the four faculty positions have been filled.
Indecision in Iberia
It took the Iberia Parish Council one hour and 15 minutes, including 34 voting attempts, to elect a council chairman during its meeting on Wednesday, according to this report from KLFY TV 10. After all was said and done, the council ended up sticking with its existing chairman, Councilman Roger Duncan.
