Acadiana 365's Pick of the Day: The Story of Christopher Jenkins

by Wynce Nolley

The AcA's artist in residence Keaton Smith brings the mind of a schizophrenic to the screen with The Story of Christopher Jenkins.

The Acadiana Center for the Arts' Artist in Residence Keaton Smith combines the delicate art of mixing video with recorded footage to create an original story about the life of a schizophrenic.

The Story of Christopher Jenkins is an audio/visual performance which elevates the cinematic experience by composing a film live in front of the audience.

In an attempt to cure Christopher Jenkins of his illness, psychiatrists use an experimental machine to extract images from his mind. The elliptical and sprawling scenery of schizophrenia is processed and guided toward clarity in real time, while examining the protagonsist's fragmented thought, memory and delusions.

The Story of Christopher Jenkins premieres on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the James D. Moncus Theatre in the Acadiana Center for the Arts, located at 101 W. Vermilion St., in downtown Lafayette.

Performances will also be held Jan. 10-11 at 7:30 p.m., with admission at $12. For more details including ticket info, visit AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org.
