Party Girl

Party Girl

Even though Lafayette is full of events, Party Girl's always glad to see a new one start up. The Oil Center Renaissance Association's first-ever Sippin' in the Sunset ' what a great name ' at Lafayette Townhouse gets the prize for best new event of the summer. In this case, the "sippin'" was on some refreshing mojitos, a big hit along with the band Louisiana Red. Oil Center restaurants filled The Townhouse tent with their wares. Out to support the Oil Center's Festival of Light were Jimmy and Renee Guidry, Mary Ann Diel and Andre Fruge, Kiki and Rick Frayard, Sharon Moss and Curtis Roy, Coury Moss and Sarah James, Jaci and Michael Russo and Debbey Ryan. And congrats to Kimberly Schuler Florsheim, who chaired the fabulous event. Looks like Sippin' in the Sunset is the new "must-do" on Party Girl's summer social calendar.

A tried and true event, now in its 23rd year, is the Boys & Girls Clubs annual Steak & Burger Dinner at the Cajundome Convention Center. Party Girl looks forward to this one each year, as it's really a showcase for the club's talented kids. In addition to steaks and burgers, the event includes a silent auction. Seen strolling the auction items were Mary Galyean, Benny and Sudie Mann, Dr. Barry Bohn, Valerie Keller and Christine Lemoine. I also ran into lots of folks from Stone Energy, the major sponsor of the event. But the high point of the evening is always the ever-popular performances by the boys and girls, who practice their singing and dancing moves all summer long.

After the performances, Party Girl dropped by Charley G's for an end-of-the-evening cocktail. And boy was I glad I did, because I caught Elizabeth Abdalla celebrating her big 5-0 with an appletini. Her husband, Harold, daughter, Jasmine, and friends Preston and Angie Miller with their daughter, Madison, were all there to help her mark the big event. Happy Birthday, Elizabeth! You don't look a day over 30.
