21-6 run ignites Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Bryant Mbamalu scored 21 points to fuel UL Lafayette en route to its season-best sixth straight win, 78-63 over visiting Troy Thursday night.

Louisiana (18-9, 9-5 Sun Belt) went more than four minutes without a basket midway through the first half and trailed 16-10 before Hayward Register drilled a 3-pointer to spark a 21-6 run that gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 31-22 lead at intermission.

The Cajuns shot a crisp 54.4 percent from the field (31 of 57), hitting 5 of 17 from distance while its defense held Troy to 21 of 54 from the field (38.9 percent)

Shawn Long scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Louisiana, with Elfrid Payton adding another 15 points.

Antoine Myers scored 14 points to lead Troy (9-16, 4-9), with Kevin Thomas, Hunter Williams and Kelton Ford each adding 11 points.
