More than $12 million cleared for Lafayette projects

by Walter Pierce

Widening Verot School Road is on the list.

A State Bond Commission online auction of general obligation bonds earlier this month netted some $12.6 million that will be earmarked for projects in Lafayette Parish, according to Treasurer John Kennedy's office. Total revenues generated by the auction were just over $496 million for more than 600 infrastructure projects throughout the state.

In Lafayette, the proceeds from the auction will be divvied up accordingly:

$499,500 for the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to complete Verot School Road

$295,000 for the LSU Health Sciences Center's Health Care Services Division to expand their emergency room and refurbish elevators

$529,800 for Cajundome improvements

$11.3 for Youngsville to complete its Parkway Road and Beltway Road projects.
