Party Girl

Party Girl

by Jill Norman LeBlanc

Phew, Party Girl had a hectic week and really needed a glass a wine last Friday after work. What better way to start the weekend than with a free wine tasting at Philippe's Wine Cellars (now located on Ambassador Caffery next to Zeus Restaurant). Held every Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., this tasting is a great opportunity to meet fun people in a casual atmosphere and stick your nose into a good glass of red. Last week's tasting featured fine Italian wines provided by Glazer's. The always dapper Anthony Domingue poured with style and spoke with expertise. Philippe and Sylvie Simon ' quite possibly the cutest couple in the wine business ' hosted a group of 30 wine enthusiasts with grace and panache. Party Girl left the store relaxed and ready for the weekend.

Next up was the 16th annual REALTOR Association Gumbo Cook-off. After the red wine from Philippe's, the spicy elixir served at Acadian Village felt just right. Thank goodness they were cooking indoors, because the rain would have watered down the fine Cajun cooking of participants like the Andrus and Andrus Law Firm. The good folks from Home Mortgage Associates showed everybody how "country comes to town" is done right and deservedly won first place in theme as the "Beverly HOMEbillies." Party Girl had to leave a tad early, because one more spoonful of duck and andouille gumbo and I would have turned into a sausage.

It was all about getting gorgeous and giving back at the Shop for the Cure Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation event at Brother's on the Boulevard. How could Party Girl resist when everything was pink in one of Lafayette's longest established boutiques? Party Girl felt beautiful walking into Brother's, knowing that I might help cure breast cancer just by buying a Brighton's Power of Pink bracelet with feminine charms. Mr. and Mrs. Abdalla made the event a roaring success with their heartfelt hospitality. Five Pink Ribbons to them!
