The owner of a Youngsville-based oil and gas company pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to one count of negligent discharge of pollutants.

The owner of a Youngsville-based oil and gas company pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to one count of negligent discharge of pollutants.

According to a press release issued by U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley's office, Robbie Mouton, owner of Robbie's Gauging Service admitted to discharging a "mixture of produced water and crude oil" into the Vermilion River at an oilfield exploration site near Milton without a permit.

The 56-year-old Mouton faces up to one year in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of either $100,000, or between $2,500 and $25,000 for each day of the violation. A sentencing date has yet been set.
