The city-parish president will host a series of town hall meetings with parish residents beginning Tuesday.
City-Parish President Joey Durel will host a series of town hall meetings with parish residents beginning Tuesday. The purpose of the meetings is to get input from residents on such topics as the comprehensive plan and annexations, and to allow Durel to answer questions regarding any of several proposals he put forward during his State of the Parish address in February. Among those proposals: the creation of a one-cent, one-year sales tax dedicated to airport improvements (and possibly other infrastructure projects like the South College extension/Vermilion River bridge), and the creation of a public health millage that combines existing millages for mosquito control and the public health unit with animal control services parishwide.
"We have a lot of positive momentum in Lafayette right now, and so it is important to talk to, and hear from people throughout the parish to make sure they see what we see every day and that they have the same sense of optimism about our parish that we have," Durel says in a press release touting the meetings. "There are also real issues that people are facing every day, and they often appreciate the opportunity to ask their questions and get answers to the local government issues that affect them each day."
