In the kitchen: Cookie monsters

by Kari Walker

Love is sweeter with chocolate chips

There is little children love more than a chocolate chip cookie - the same could be said for parents. But not all cookies are created equal. Baking cookies in the kitchen is an age-old tradition that will inspire the warmest of conversations and leave memories for years to come. Today, we are sharing two of our favorite cookie recipes from food blogs we love - one is a classic with a twist and the other is friendly to those struggling with gluten.

The first, a recipe for Malted Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies from The Pioneer Woman. These are a crowd pleaser with a crispy wafer-like texture. A seriously playful upgrade to these cookies is to transform them into delicious little ice cream sandwiches. Warning: they are addictive but perfect for summertime cool treats. Crispy cookies can easily become ice cream treats

The other recipe is a gluten-free cookie from the folks at Primal Palate. This cookie was originally whipped up to satisfy the sweet tooth cravings of those following a Paleo lifestyle, but are popular beyond the grain-free folks. They are light and chewy and be sure to use a small cookie scoop to make them the right size for little hands. This is the cookie that moms won't feel so guilty about because the sweetener used here is nature's own pure maple syrup. Click here to try the recipe.
