Royal Teeth bite into American Idol

by Wynce Nolley

In case you missed it, local pop-electronic quintet Royal Teeth accepted a personal invitation from American Idol judge Harry Connick, Jr., to fly to Hollywood to perform their single "Wild" live on last night's show.

During last night's American Idol Season XIII Top 10 Results special, Harry Connick, Jr., introduced Royal Teeth as his "Tastemaker" choice to perform live in front of the show's mammoth audience. The band performed its single "Wild" from its latest album "Glow."

"They're from Louisianathat's the main reason I love them," Connick said as he introduced the band. "The second main reason I love them is that they're hot. These guys are awesome."

Royal Teeth is comprised of members hailing from both New Orleans and here in Acadiana, including the band's drummer Josh Hefner, a Lafayette native.

Recently, Hefner was interviewed by KATC about his band's performance on American Idol, saying:

"This band has been together getting close to three and a half years now. They (American Idol) are doing a series each of the last four weeks where each judge picks an artist to feature and we were Harry Connick's pick. We had no idea he knew we existed, to be honest. We found out that Harry Connick, Jr., was a fan of the band. He picked us to be featured on the show," said the drummer of the circumstances that landed the band in Hollywood.
