Party Girl

The Mystic Krewe of Apollo's question for its 2007 Mardi Gras Ball ' "Weather or Not!" ' was answered resoundingly. At the royalty announcement party on Saturday, Oct. 21, the heavens opened at the Townhouse. At times it seemed the rain was going to convert the Garden Terrace back to its former life as a swimming pool. But the tent held, and festivities proceeded with Apollo's typical blend of exuberance and extravagance. My favorite outfits of the evening evoked the Paris catwalk and Moulin Rouge. The spirit of the night was definitely filled with Carnival revelry, and I danced until my little feet were worn out.

After the early Mardi Gras festivities, it was time for Halloween and pumpkin-carving again at the B-O-Odreauxs! Anyone with a magic marker, carving knife and sweet treats can have a pumpkin-carving good time, but Chuck and Lisa Boudreaux are real pros. I joined the children and carved a pumpkin for the first time in my life, while the Orange Kool-Aid flowed freely. Tall and little ones joined together in a fun-filled family environment in the Camelot subdivision that truly spoke of neighborhood spirit. I'm already sharpening my carving knife for the Boudreaux's 6th annual Halloween gathering next year.

From there it was onto Firefly Digital's Halloween celebration, where everyone had a ghoulishly good time. Amongst the many guests were ghouls and goblins, witches and warlocks as well as Rhett Butler, Scarlett O'Hara, the Cat in the Hat and Marty McFly from Back to the Future. Sipping on "Skeletinis" and dancing to the tunes of D.J. Bobby Novasad, the crowd was also entertained and enthralled by the magic tricks of "Magic Mike." Keith Sonnier did an awesome job in carving pumpkins with the Firefly logo, and the Firefly staff decorated the place to look positively creepy. I missed the opportunity to have my cards read by Tarot card reader extraordinaire Pamela Bradley, but I predict the fall 2007 holiday season is going to be a great one!
