The must-see event for green thumbs

An event made for the green thumbs is slated for Blackham Coliseum April 12 and 13. The annual Festival des Fleurs de Louisiane is a one-stop home for all that's needed to get the garden sprouting come spring.

The event that began with a small group aimed at earning some funding for the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center has become the premier garden show and sale.

Booths brim with the newest plants on the market along with tools, supplies, books, pottery and garden ornaments. In fact, vendors are required to sell only garden-related items.

Admission is $5 and children under 12 enter for free. In addition to the booths, there is a display area from local plant organizations including the Lafayette Garden Club, the Bonsai Society of Acadiana, and the Acadian Orchid Society as well as children's activities.

The festival is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13. For more information about the show or being a vendor, call Billy Welsh at 337-482-5339 or email [email protected].
