A St. Landry Parish man serving a life sentence for a murder he committed as a teenager has asked for a review of his sentence, according to this report from Eunice Today.

Larry Sylvester was 15 when he was convicted. That was 1973, and he has since served 40 years.

Sylvester's motion for a sentencing review stems from a ruling last year by the U.S. Supreme Court, which deemed life sentences for minors as a cruel and unusual form of punishment. According to Eunice Today, Sylvester argues that his decision to commit murder in 1973 was the result of being pressured by his 30-year-old accomplice.

Sylvester's hearing is scheduled for April 9.
