Some Louisiana lawmakers are fearing for their safety, according to this report from the Advocate, and that fear has prompted a bill from Sen. Bret Allain to allow legislators to pack heat within the walls of the Capitol.

Some Louisiana lawmakers are fearing for their safety, according to this report from the Advocate, and that fear has prompted a bill from Sen. Bret Allain to allow legislators to pack heat within the walls of the Capitol.

"We make votes here all the time that are sometimes controversial, that sometimes upset groups of people," Alain, R-Franklin, tells the Advocate. "I think that legislators as a whole should have the same right to protect themselves as judges and DAs have."

The Capitol, it's worth noting, is already fairly well-secured, with security guards, metal detectors and state troopers.
