House Bill 992 would exempt the Horse Farm property from the Louisiana Public Lease Law, which require public bodies to publicize and open for competitive bidding leases of publicly owned land.
The Lafayette City-Parish Council will vote Tuesday evening on a resolution endorsing a bill filed by state Rep. Joel Robideaux. House Bill 992 would exempt the Horse Farm property from the Louisiana Public Lease Law, which require public bodies - in this case Lafayette Consolidated Government, which purchased the 100-acre property from UL Lafayette in 2012 to create a central park for the city - to publicize and open for competitive bidding leases of publicly owned land.
LCG leased the Horse Farm last year to a newly created nonprofit, Central Park LLC, which is operated by a volunteer board. HB 992 would allow Central Park LLC to reconfigure the property or make other alterations without putting projects out for public bid. The bill applies only to progress of the Horse Farm and not to any other transactions involving LCG-owned property.
