Lamar: how big oil gets away with it
APR 8 Blogger Lamar White Jr. starts digging into the history of Big Oil and its relationship with Louisiana, and he digs deep -- starting with Huey Long. The bottom line? Big Oil can do what it wants because it writes the laws and "regulates itself" here, Lamar argues in this first installment on the topic.

If it is a conspiracy, it could do better
APR 9 Sure, Vance McAllister's fat has been in the fire for about a day now, but already focus has shifted to the source of the "leak" of the video to an anti-McAllister publication. First blogger Lamar White Jr., and now the Monroe News-Star is reporting here that questions have been raised about how the video was obtained and whether or not it was legal.

APR 8 It was a valiant effort, but alas, the Picayune reports here that state Sen. Elbert Guillory's attempt to prevent the sport of "chicken boxing" from being unfairly lumped in with "chicken fighting" has failed. This despite Guillory's self-described "country boy" explanations and invites to the "city slickers" to allow him to disabuse them of their misapprehensions concerning the "sport."

APR Maness thinks so! As this post on the Washington Examiner points out, most of the coverage of Louisiana's upcoming Senate race has focused on Bill Cassidy and Mary Landrieu. But Tea Party candidate Rob Maness could be a contender, Byron York writes. This post is a fascinating interview with Maness, in which he implies that his lack of funds and lack of experience are both a plus. We don't need a Republican who has to "spend a million dollars just to stay in the hunt," and he has no voting record to challenge, Maness says.

Aswell: some questions about the mcallister thing
APR 8 As Bob Mann said, and Tom Aswell here agrees, the journalist on the very top of this story is Lamar White Jr., a Texas college student who blogs in his spare time. But Aswell already has his own list of questions, thoughts and conspiracy theories on the situation here -- including the rumor that possibly Timmy Teepell might be involved.

APR 8 Clancy DuBos gives us the run-down on some recent polls, but adds a caveat about the uselessness of said polls. Even if accurate, they only show you a picture of voters' attitudes at one moment in time, DuBos says: they don't predict elections. Good thing for David Vitter, cause he's not even beating the guy who ain't running.

Bayou Buzz on poll, mcallister, vitter
APR 8 Here's the latest Bayou Buzz Hangout on Louisiana politics. In this session, Stephen Sabludowsky and Jeff Crouere chat about the latest polls and political scandals, which of course includes the McAllister kissy-face incident.

Lens profile of Big Oil's Adley
APR 8 Big Oil can't have a better friend than state Sen. Robert Adley, Tyler Bridges writes in this post on the Lens. Adley's carrying water for Big Oil this session in its attempts to kill lawsuits on several fronts. In addition, he's offered a bill that would ensure no pesky independence from future flood boards -- by having the governor just appoint the membership.
