Hunter brings blue-eyed groove to AcA

by Walter Pierce

James Hunter Six will do a pair of performances in the AcA's Moncus Theater - Thursday and Friday, both at 7:30 p.m.

The Acadiana Center for the Arts takes a detour from Jazz Month with a two-night event featuring James Hunter Six, fronted by the Grammy-nominated eponymous front man from the U.K. who 20 years ago came to attention of Van Morrison in a London pub. The meeting led to appearances on each other's records as well as Hunter touring with the Irish phenom. Hunter has since toured with Etta James, Aretha Franklin and other luminaries. His blue-eyed soul has been described as a "tight, slithery groove" by the New York Times - a sound that paved the way for such artists as Amy Winehouse.

James Hunter Six will do a pair of performances in the AcA's Moncus Theater - Thursday and Friday, both at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15-$30 (few orchestra seats remain for this event).
