APR 10 The so-called Butt Bill advances, WGNO tells us in this post. The bill would make it a crime, punishable by a $250 fine, to cast your butt upon the pristine landscape of our Louisiana. (To clear up any conclusion, it's aimed at cigarette butts.)

Hanna still trying to make hay
APR 10 Sam Hanna Jr., publisher of the newspaper that first showed us the McAllister kissy-face video, doesn't seem too worried about accusations that he's involved in a conspiracy to punish McAllister for having the nerve to beat the chosen one. In this post, he's implying that McAllister has had more than one affair, and blustering with indignation that McAllister asked folks to pray for him during the campaign. (So now sinners can't ask for prayer?)

APR 10 As if the breed doesn't have enough to overcome, a recent tragedy in Houma in which a dog killed a little girl saw authorities describe the animal as a pit bull. But, this story in the Picayune tells us, it was much larger than a pit bull and was more likely an American Bully and bred for aggressiveness. There's also more detail in here that explains what probably happened.

Aswell: is it a cut or a freeze?
APR 10 Blogger Tom Aswell peels away the semantics and argues that the Jindal Administration's "spending freeze" announced just before happy hour on Friday is really a mid-year spending cut, which we were told would not happen this year. Maybe that's why it was announced just before happy hour on a Friday, Aswell opines.

Adley's legacy bill bites the dust
APR 10 So one of state Sen. Robert Adley's Big Oil bills has bit the dust, John Maginnis reports here. The senator's legacy bill, which would allow a state-controlled delay following any acceptance of liability, got shot down in committee.

APR 10 You gotta love Wonkette, the irreverent blog that can make any sordid tale entertaining. Here's the Wonkette post on the McAllister situation (they identify him as Vance McAllister, R-Tonsil Hockey) and they give mad props to blogger Lamar White Jr., the first guy who raised his hand and asked "Where the heck did that video come from?"

APR 10 Jim Brown blogs about the recent (and not unexpected) news that Louisiana has been named the state with the worst drivers. Part of the reason for our (continued) ranking at the top of that list is our tolerance for drunk driving, Brown writes. And he's not talking about the law, since we have one of the toughest in the country, he writes. It's the prosecutors and judges who won't enforce it, he says.

APR 10 Who orchestrated the "leak" of a congressman kissing his staffer? Blogger Manny Schewitz has his money on Bobby Jindal, he writes in this post on the Forward Progressives blog. The whole thing smells "like a political hit job," Schewitz writes, and while McAllister was a rising star, he also had stepped on party toes. Now the party "has put him in his place," Schewitz says.
